Totem Pole

This week we learned that Emperor Penguins live in communities called rookeries.  We also learned that some people used totem poles as symbols to tell about their community.  We were inspired to make a totem pole to tell our class story.  Here are some pictures of the totem pole in the making.  Check back to see what it looks like when it is completed.

Building Routines

This week we have continued to build on our daily routines.  In math we are building a number book.  We are working on "throwing" numbers with our fingers and recognizing dot images of numbers. We have also been working on sorting objects by attributes.

Of course we love building with our math materials.

In Literacy we are working on building our concept of word.  Weekly poems give us a chance to count words, hear rhyme, and hunt for letters.

The hit for this week was a visit from our 2nd grade friends. They created counting games to share with us!

Such a busy week!

This week was filled with so many things.  We are all getting used to our new schedule. We love having PE every day.  Zero the Hero left us some m&m's to sort and graph.  We celebrated all the colors with Rainbow day.  We were inspired by the book Mouse Paint and explored mixing colors!  In math we have been looking at ways we can sort objects, creating a number book, and exploring materials we will use.  We are enjoying getting to know one another!

Building Mat Man!  He will help us with handwriting and adding details to our pictures of people!
