3rd graders share some illustrations

We have looking at illustrations in books that we read.  We have been talking about how the illustrations really help to tell the story.  Our third grade friends shared some illustration that they thought were really good at helping to tell the story.  We worked on a plan for our illustrations.
#1--- plan your idea.
#2---start with pencil. (It is easier to erase than crayon)
#3---add colors that make sense.

We will continue to work on our illustrations.  Here are some photos of our third grade friends sharing with us!

Apple orchard trip

While the day began a little foggy,  we had a great time at the apple orchard yesterday!  Many thanks to all the parents that joined us for our trip!

Fog beginning to lift as we took our wagon ride.

We learned that the orchard is 1000 feet up the mountain. We had some good ideas about why a farmer would want to put his orchard on the top of a hill.

We learned how the bees help the apple trees.

Looking for just the right apples.

Finding some good ones!

Community Building

We have learned that a community is where you live, work, and play.  We are sharing some of the things we like to do in our community.  We also learned that we are part of a bigger community, our country.  We learned that the flag (Star Spangled Banner, Old Glory, Stars and Stripes) is a symbol for our country.  We wanted to make a symbol for our learning community! We learned that some communities and families created totem poles to tell their community/family story.  We decided to make a totem pole to tell our learning community's story.

We planned our ideas,

and then we got to work!

Ms. Mayer helped us!

We worked carefully.

We choose our materials.
