Growing as writers!

This year we have spent a lot of time working on our writing.  Students began by telling their stories.  We then began drawing pictures to show one part of our story.  We developed an illustration rubric.  We then began writing our stories.  First we just labeled our work.  Then we began writing sentences to tell the story.  Last week we began editing our work.  Notice the "editing glasses" students wear when looking over their writing.

Here are students recording their stories on a classroom galaxy.

RekenRek -  we use this to make numbers in different ways!

One way to make and show 5.  Do you see 4 and 1?

5 again.  How do you see it?

A different way to make 5.

Still another way to make 5.   (Does this look a Z to you?)

Are we as tall as Abe. Lincoln

We enjoyed learning about Abraham Lincoln.  We learned he was 6 feet 3 inches tall.  We wanted to see if any of us in the Penguin room were as tall.  So we measured out how tall 6'3" was on the floor and then measured ourselves.

Mrs. Nicholson let us measure her!  She is not as tall as Abe.  Lincoln!

While we weren't as tall as Abe Lincoln.  We did find that Mr. Martin is!
