A very busy week!

This was a very busy week! We wrote and shared animal stories. We used our sense of sight to examine things in the classroom and on our nature walk.  On Friday everyone enjoyed working in the SPARK lab on the STEM challenge with our third grade buddies.

Students choose a good spot to do their writing

Some students are beginning to use the sounds they hear to help when writing!

Students enjoy sharing their work!

We took a close look to see what
might be causing the plants leaves to turn

Our Literacy Block is organized around the Daily 5.  Students work in groups and pairs to complete different activities to build fluency, reading stamina, and letter/word knowledge.  Here are a few pictures of what it looks like in our classroom during our literacy block.

Class Community

We learned that Totem Poles were used to tell the story of families, clans and tribes.  This week we completed our class totem pole.  Students worked in cooperative pairs to paint and decorate their box.  We then assembled the boxes and wrote our story.  The totem pole is on display outside our room!
