Young writers sharing their stories!

Kindergarteners have lots of stories to tell.  We began this year by telling some of our stories. Then we worked to create an illustration rubric to draw a picture to help tell the story.  Now many are labeling or beginning to write the story that goes with their picture.  Thanks to the wonderful support of Donor's Choose, our class can now record our stories to share!  Here is our first attempt at sharing some of the stories we were working on this week.

Young Writers!

We have been enjoying great books and looking at what good writers and illustrators do to tell their stories.  We created an illustration rubric and we are now telling our stories through our pictures.  Notice how these young writers find different workspaces to work on their stories!

Our most beautiful tree!

We have a beautiful tree right outside our classroom!  We have loved watching the leaves change colors.  Now we are watching to see how long it takes for all the leaves to fall off!

Fall observations

Look at what we see happening to our tree! It sparked some wondering questions-
Why do leaves change colors?  Why do the leaves fall? We will see if we can answer these questions as we observe the tree outside our classroom.

Apple picking and Snowball Fight

We had a perfect day for our trip to the apple orchard.  While we were there, we learned what happened to the apple tree in each season. We took a hayride, picked apples and had a snack of apple cider and an apple donut! We wondered what the advantages and disadvantages of having an orchard on top of hill might have been.

The highlight of the week was our first indoor snowball fight!

This week the scientists in room 12 used their sense of hearing. We listened to different kinds of music and drew lines to represent each kind of music.

Which line is classical?
Which line is jazz?

Which line is rock?

A very busy week!

This was a very busy week! We wrote and shared animal stories. We used our sense of sight to examine things in the classroom and on our nature walk.  On Friday everyone enjoyed working in the SPARK lab on the STEM challenge with our third grade buddies.

Some students are beginning to use the sounds they hear to help when writing!
