Writing

This quarter we have been studying illustrations. We have practiced telling stories and are now creating illustrations that tell a story. We begin with pencil. Use colors that make sense and then add details.
"This is me moving to a new house when I get bigger."
"I want to be a dentist."
"I want to be a mom"

Pumpkin Glyph

We made glyphs to tell information about us. Then we were able to sort the pumpkins based on the information the glyph showed. Each time we sorted we talked about what we noticed.
The eyes told what kind of pumpkin we liked best. (Big,small, medium)
The nose told if we liked to carve pumpkins. (Many of us do!)
The mouth told if we liked pumpkin pie, if we didn't, or if we have never tried it.

October 13

Students practiced, "Read to Someone" this week. We sit "EEKK" style. (elbow to elbow, knee to knee, with the book in the middle.) We take turns reading to each other. This builds our reading stamina.

Fall is definitely here and we are enjoying every moment. This week we began a science unit on our Senses. We wrote about what we want to do when we get bigger. We practiced reading with someone and compared numbers. The highlight was a visit from the Earlysville Fire department!

Our First Field Trip

Finally photos from our field trip! We had a terrific day to go to Carter's Mountain. We learned about apple trees in the Apple School, took a hay ride, and picked apples. Thank you to all the volunteers that came along with us!
